In November of 2020, Ensemble Interactivo de La Habana (EIH) was able to assemble, after months of isolation, to record their debut album together. This studio session, recorded in the middle of a pandemic, represents almost seven years of musical, artistic, and humane evolution built together as a collective. The group’s sonic universe is at once crafted and expansive, and defies genre categorization; rather it is defined by a shared resonance. Their practice weaves together nine individual consciousnesses (and sub-consciousnesses) into one, resulting in a visceral symphony of colliding worlds that is at once finely crafted, and at the same time purely and unequivocally free.
After years of fantastically creative performances from street parades to installation-style performances at venues like the renowned Fábrica de Arte Cubano, EIH brings their music to US audiences for the first time with this ecstatic improvisation. Without representing a particular style or structure, the ensemble weaves a singularly potent homage to their long-standing history of collaboration in this symphony of colliding worlds, where nine virtuosi find liberation in the pursuit of a common goal.

Ensemble Interactivo de La Habana (EIH) is a group of creators and performers dedicated to the development and promotion of interdisciplinary and experimental music in Cuba. Their improvisatory practices are deeply collective and unique in the broad timbral spectrum that results from their combination of varied instruments from the symphonic world, electronic musics, and traditional music from countries in the Caribbean. EIH has impacted the contemporary and improvised music scene in Cuba through their experimental performances at Festivals around the country, including those La Casa de Las Américas, the Contemporary Music Festival of Havana, the Voix Humaines Festival, and the Isa Arts Festival. In addition to performances at established venues, they regularly perform in street performances within and around Havana. EIH was recently awarded the Reino de Este Mundo scholarship by the Hermanos Saiz association, with which they produced the film Caracol Nocturno: un Homenaje a Jose Lezama Lima. While EIH regularly creates online video content entitled G Sessions, this is their debut album.
